MONC Western Washington/Alaska  District Auditions

Each year the Metropolitan Opera National Council (MONC) holds  auditions all around the US and Canada to select gifted singers with potential for succeeding in an operatic career. Many of today’s stars, including Thomas Hampson, Renée Fleming, Susan Graham and Deborah Voigt, were discovered in these auditions. The Seattle-based audition will take place in two stages: the winners of the district auditions for Western Washington and Alaska progress to the regional auditions for Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Western Canada. The finalists from all regions then compete at the Metropolitan Opera. Winners of our regional auditions have won first place at the Met auditions in several years, including 2007 and 2008.

Tickets at the door: $ 15  general, $ 10 seniors and students

Over the years these auditions have been both exciting and fun, full of the best arias, one after another, delivered by amazing young people. They are a real bargain as well.  Test your ratings of the singers against the judges’ decisions.  You can come and go during the auditions. Monetary prizes of different kinds are awarded including one for the audience favorite.
